Glenn Beachy 2011 Far West District 8 Most Distinguished Service Award
HATA was founded by eight members in 1985, Lindy Rowan, Chris Balskie, Melody Toth, Wes Sphar, Pete Howard, Eric Okasaki, Glenn Beachy, and Jayson Goo. In 1987, University of Hawaii - Manoa offers an Atheltic Training Curriculum. The membership doubles by 1988 and work begins to get a Certified Atheltic Trainer in each of the public secondary schools. The first Annual HATA Symposium is held in 1993. HATA sponsors the first annual Student Athletic Trainer Workshop for high school students in 1995. In 1997 All public secondary schools have an Athletic Trainer position. In 1998 Hawaii hosts the Far West Athletic Trainers' Association (FWATA) meeting. HATA offers scholarships to high school seniors interested in the sports medicine field in 1999. In 2002 HATA unanimously votes to pursue regulation. The FWATA comes to Hawaii for a second time in 2004. In 2009 The HATA Symposium is held on a neighbor island for the first time. FWATA returns to Hawaii for third time in 2010. Presently, HATA has a total of 183 members. |
